About the Show

Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic romantic comedy reimagined for a modern age.
A tale of forbidden love set amongst the intrigue of high society in modern day Japan. A delightfully funny and satirical look at power dynamics, relationships, and the transcendence of love.

Richmond Players has assembled a large and boisterous cast for this showcase of colourful characters, extreme plot twists, high farce and broad comedy​
​Director Nicholas Noel has also brought the show's overall setting away from its original colonial perspective of the 'exotic orient' to reflect a more open and universal appreciation of human foibles and failings.
Wandering hapless amongst it all are a pair of young lovers negotiating social restrictions (including capital punishment for flirting) and relentlessly circular bureaucracy (such as the public executioner required first to decapitate himself)
