Richmond Players is a community dramatic society, incorporated in 1996. We produce three shows each year, special events, and deliver high-quality, affordable theatre to the Hawkesbury and surrounding communities.
We are also passionate about developing talent. We provide a variety of opportunities to support community members, including young people, to grow their knowledge and experience in the performing arts.
Our History
The Richmond Players was formed through the Richmond Branch of the Country Women’s Association. At a meeting in February 1952 it was suggested that a play reading circle be formed.
One Act plays were performed in the CWA rooms in Richmond and in 1954 the first three act play was performed in the School of Arts, Richmond. This play was “Ladies in Retirement” directed by Dallas Blake.
Richmond Players has presented plays and musicals, including pantomime and theatre/restaurant every year since 1952 making it one of the longest, continually operating drama groups in NSW.
Our substantial history prompted us to compile a Richmond Players hard cover book, documenting the many shows that have been a part of our rich past. We would to sincerely thank the Kurrajong Comleroy Historical Society, which was a major force behind the development of the book.
