About The Event

Come play some of our favourite improv games with us! Join in a team of 3-4, or join solo and find others to team up with at the event. Different games and different topics, creating chaos! A bit like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. Expect a night filled with shenanigans, quick thinking and laughs aplenty.

Audience Members should bring a drink and some nibblies and enjoy the fun.

Sick of working off a script? Missing devising stuff in the Drama room at school? Think you’ can do better than those celebrities in “Thank God you’re here!” Or just love the iconic games in “Theatre Sports”? Do we have a spot for you!

On Saturday the 20th of June , for one night only, Richmond Players is offering a chance to improvise . We’re looking for teams of three or four actors who’d like to participate in a night of quick thinking, imagination, character changing and storytelling based on improvisation games like Expert Double Figures, Space Jump, Emotional Replay… or others.

We’ll start at one-minute games and progress to five minutes, so there’ll be a compere and timekeeper, but it won’t be a competition … though we might have some “judges” in the audience to cheer you along.

There’ll be two Sunday evening “rehearsals” beforehand for everyone to meet and discuss the games you’d be comfortable playing and you’ll also get to practise them. You can sign on as part of a team – or just come along and meet other brave thespians who’ll be keen to work with you. We’ll have a few ‘old hands’ at impro to explain how to best play the games and do some coaching for those who need to brush up on their skills – and lots of time for you to practise together.

The whole idea is to have some fun while you demonstrate the impro skills that actors need to fall back on when they forget lines, or leave a prop backstage, or can’t open a door that is stuck, or…

For the audience, it’s a chance to see our local performers “having a go” at thinking “on the spot”, picking up on ideas, taking on different characters … and making short pieces of theatre in the process.
