In Loving Memory - Jean Turnbull
Miss Jean Turnbull was one of our founding members. In January 2025 she passed away peacefully at the age of 102. Jean was the daughter of Reginald Beaumont Turnbull, orchardist of North Richmond, after whom has Turnbull Oval and Beaumont Avenue are named. Jean performed in the first play reading of The Countess and the Cook in 1952. She then performed in A Season of One-Act Plays in which her mother Margaret and father Reg, also participated. Jean continued with Little Lambs Eat Ivy and You Can't Take it With You in 1955. Unfortunately work commitments somewhat curtailed her participation. She was also a vital member of the Committee from 1957 to 1959, serving as Secretary and Vice President. With the passing of Jean, it sees Players’ last surviving member from the original CWA roots joining the other founding members, such as Dallas Blake (who is responsible for the inception of Richmond Players), Tui Badger and Mavis Farlow, to name a few, in history. We hope they’re now performing on their own immortal stage. Following in Jean's footsteps, the Turnbull clan continue to be part of the Richmond Players' family supporting many productions. The Committee extends on behalf of the entire Richmond Players’ family our condolences, best wishes and heartfelt thanks to Jean and her family for the legacy she leaves and the indelible mark she made. 16 January 2025 |
